About

Welcome to Build Me a Planet – the blog that turns the worlds Hollywood imagines into the planets NASA might discover next week. Every fortnight we work through a new ‘build’, learning some surprising things about familiar and beloved sci-fi and fantasy settings and picking up a little bit of planetary science along the way.

Me? My name’s Rohan Byrne. I’m currently a PhD student at the University of Melbourne working on numerical geodynamic modelling of the interiors of exoplanets. I’m a man of many hobbies, including writing for stage, making unplayable boardgames, and shouting at the TV. Most of all I’m a full-time sci-fi enthusiast and technoutopian who started drinking Earl Grey because that’s what Jean-Luc Picard would do. I am fortified in all my endeavours by my brilliant wife, Georgia.

I’m game to talk about anything with anyone at any length, so feel free to drop me a line any time.
